Stoke-on-Trent collect title of European City of Sport 2016

26 Nov 2015

Officials from Stoke-on-Trent have formally collected the title of European City of Sport 2016. The city was honoured during a prestigious awards ceremony at the European Parliament in Brussels.

The title recognises Stoke-on-Trent's commitment to place sport and health firmly at the heart of regeneration and growth plans over the coming years. It was awarded by ACES Europe, a not-for-profit organisation based in Brussels.

Activities already being looked at for next year include a city-wide sporting event, a mass-participation 5km road race and a triathlon.

The events will build on Stoke-on-Trent’s impressive sporting credentials which have already seen 5,000 workers - including a team of our staff - take part in the UK Corporate Games in the city this summer and saw some of the world’s top cyclists race through the city’s streets in the Tour of Britain.
