Overview

Located in a Victorian pottery factory, Gladstone Pottery Museum offers a fascinating insight into the history of Stoke-on-Trent, famous the world over for the quality of its pottery.
Gladstone was not a famous pottery. However, it was typical of hundreds of similar factories in the area making everyday ceramic items for the mass market. Visitors can experience for themselves what conditions were like for the men, women and children who worked at the centre of the world’s pottery industry.
Gladstone Pottery Museum is the only complete Victorian pottery factory from the days when coal burning ovens made the world’s finest bone china. Demonstrations of traditional skills, original workshops, the cobbled yard and huge bottle ovens transport visitors back in time. There is the opportunity to have a go at throwing a pot, making a china flower for decorating pottery.
Gladstone Pottery Museum can provide spaces and catering for a wide range of occasions, from hiring the whole site to booking a room for a family celebration. The site offers a unique versatile space to hire for festivals, markets, and other event types with a cobbled courtyard surrounded by bottle ovens, offering an authentic setting for standout events. The full site can be hired out with exclusive use available during certain times of the year.
Adjacent to the museum is a large, flat car park that can also be used as part of the event space. There is parking available for 60 cars on the main car park and 4 clearly marked Blue Badge parking spaces at the museum entrance. The main car park surface is tarmac with a paved path leading to the museum entrance. The car park is lit by lamp posts.
Room hire can be combined with museum guided tours or team building workshops including clay and painting activities. We can provide a range of catering options for delegates and we’re happy to tailor a package to your needs.
The museum has been used as a location for many dramas and factual programmes and the team would be delighted to discuss your filming requirements whether it’s utilising parts of the museum or the full site. The museum makes an atmospheric backdrop and can be hired for photographic shoots, product launches, wedding photography and much more. Please get in touch to discuss the packages and charges.
